Fortnite Controversy Rages On

Epic Games released season 10 of Fortnite earlier this August, adding the controversial B.R.U.T.E., robot mech suits. These mechs are incredibly powerful and are able to suddenly overpower players and other structures with unbelievable ease. This sudden and unexpected imbalance of power has sparked a fierce backlash among the higher skilled competitive player base.

Regardless of the cacophony of complaints from diehard gamers, Epic Games stands by their decision to include the seemingly unstoppable mechs in their popular game. Epic Games felt it necessary to release a statement to explain their stance. Epic Games wrote, “The mission of Fortnite is to bring players of all skill levels together to have a fun experience where anyone can win. For example - everyone having a shot at that first elimination or Victory Royale moment and the satisfying feeling that comes with it. Right now, we know there are players out there who have never had that opportunity.”

It seems that the inclusion of these mechs is to level the playing field for gamers worldwide, regardless of current skill level. If Epic Games decision ultimately is based on allowing newer players to succeed because of the new mechs, they will widen their customer base and experienced players will still be successful due to their strategy and aptitude.
